About Rolex Datejust 36 White Index Dial Steel Oyster Watch 116200
This is the modern descendant of the classic 1950s DJs. There are hundreds of different variations of metals, bracelets, dials, etc. that are available today. However, we have thought to go with a watch that we think best blends the original, historical features with some recent changes to make wearing more comfortable.
First of all, the Rolex Datejust 36 White Index Dial we’ve got here is the classic 36 mm model, not the 41 mm Datejust II. While some think 36 mm is too small, we don’t and agree that this watch provides the advantages of a smaller, more vintage-looking model with all the upsides of modern technologies.
Second, we opted for the case in stainless steel. Rolex uses 904L steel, a low-carbon alloy that is more corrosion- and damage-resistant. But this comes at a cost; Rolex had to invest in new infrastructure in the early 2000s. Rolex had to allow them to work with the alloy. We think many times, and it’s paid off.
Third, the Jubilee bracelet with a Datejust is, of course, the most classic choice, but we opted instead for the Oyster bracelet. The Jubilee was introduced to the DJ, of course, but today it looks a bit more suited and is much lighter, making it a little less appropriate for wearing every day. Furthermore, the Oyster bracelet gives the watch a sporty edge enabling it to work in nearly any settings. Out of the more sober and modern flat bezel, we balanced this by going for the traditional fluted white gold bezel.
Best features of Rolex Datejust 36 White Index Dial Steel Oyster Watch 116200
This stunning watch comes with a serious of elegant features, which make it more appealing. There are options for dials. The sunburst champagne colour with clear stick markers and hands to catch the spirit of the classic Rolex Datejust 36 White Index Dial. The hour markers are luminous, just like the hands are, and the slight pattern on the dial is almost similar to the sunburst seen on DateJusts in the 1960s. There’s a cyclops stone, which magnifies the date at 3 o’clock, which you’ll note around the two ranges on all modern DateJusts.
A useful technique of watchmaking is the sunray finish on Rolex dials to achieve pure metallic colour dials. Especially shades of silver grey, rhodium, or ruthenium make it look more attractive. Silver-plating is often used as a base coat for the sunray coating, where the prepared dial receives additional colour. Colour such as champagne is usually obtained by electroplating with more than half a dozen different metals.
The Rolex White Index Dial steel watch features Oystersteel for its steel watch cases. Oystersteel, specially produced by the company, belongs to the 904L steel family, alloys most widely used in high-tech and in the aerospace and chemical industries, where maximum corrosion resistance is essential. Oystersteel is highly resistant, provides excellent finish once polished and retains its elegance even in the harshest environments.
The Oyster Perpetual Bracelet
It is one of unique features of Rolex Datejust 36 White Index Dial watch. However, the Oyster bracelet is nothing, but perfect alchemy of form and function, beauty and technology built to be durable and comfortable at the same time. It is fitted with an Oysterlock folding clasp that prevents accidental opening and the Rolex exclusive Easylink comfort extension link and screws down crown. This incredibly gifted mechanism allows the wearer to increase the length of the bracelet by about 5 mm, thus providing additional protection under any circumstances.
The Cyclops Lens
One of the most iconic characteristics of Rolex is the Cyclops lens, also one of the most visible ones. Named after Greek mythology’s one-eyed giant, the Cyclops lens magnifies the watch’s emblematic date show for fast viewing, two and a half times. You know what as with every element of a Rolex timepiece, behind the Cyclops lies a history of innovation. Moreover, research and development and the relentless quest for perfection are also included in this list.

When I began this review, as a retro Rolex Yacht-Master Oyster Perpetual lover, I was a little cynical. Modern Rolex and retro Rolex are usually two very different worlds with no overlap. However, the Rolex Datejust 36 White Index Dial is a beautiful watch that bridges the gap between the two beautifully, bringing over many of the things we love about vintage Rolex while at the same time offering the niceties of a modern Rolex. It’s a watch that reminds of mid-20th century watches without being either a tribute or a throwback.
There’s no doubt on the wrist that the Rolex Datejust 36 White Index Dial watch is a reliable tool that serves you well forever. It’s stable, well-built, and it has a range of little features that make you smile when you spot them. When you’ve got a variety of watches, it’s interesting enough that you’re always going to be captivated, although if you’re a one-watch guy, finding a better everyday wearer will be hard-pressed. Although not the most common among watch enthusiasts, the modern Rolex Yacht-Master Oyster Perpetual Datejust is a balanced and clear reminder of why Rolex wears the crown.
